One of the main problems with air conditioners during very cold weather is the risk of freezing. There can be many reasons for this.
What Causes Air Conditioner Freezing:
- You haven’t removed the pipe from the outdoor unit;
- You have turned off the air conditioner for a long time;
- If water has been dripping onto the outdoor unit and it has frozen.
What Can We Do?
- The defrost mode will protect your air conditioner from freezing, but only when it is turned on. If you have turned it off and the outdoor unit has frozen, and the air conditioner won’t start, you can pour hot water on it. The outdoor unit is designed to withstand harsh external conditions, so there’s no risk of damage. The electronics and all important components are isolated. Once the ice melts, turn it on in heating mode with a set temperature no higher than 24 degrees.
- Another trick you can use for your air conditioner is to turn it on cooling mode for about 15 minutes, which will help it defrost. This is a kind of manual defrost mode. It is important to note that the indoor temperature should not be lower than 18 degrees.
